Jazz Brunch 2024 Celebrates 100 Years of Poydras High School

The Pointe Coupee Historical Society celebrated the 100-year anniversary celebration of Poydras High School April 27 and 28, 2024 at the Julien Poydras Museum and Arts Center.

A Street Dance and Walk Down Memory Lane kicked off the weekend on the front lawn of the building on Saturday, April 27th. Live music by The Cool Beans set the tone with tunes of the era when Poydras High School was in its heydey, while guests indulged in delicious food and drinks. A memorial hall was open for display, which featured memorabilia from alumni of Poydras High school, such as sports uniforms, photos, yearbooks, textbooks, and more. Over 200 people were in attendance.

On Sunday, April 28th, the annual Jazz Brunch was held, catered by Ma Mama's and Not Your Mama's, while the joint Southern University and LSU Jazz Quintet sets the mood with live music. The annual Jazz Brunch continues to enhance Poydras High, now the Julien  Poydras Museum and Arts Center through landscaping, tree plantings, sidewalks, and various other improvements.
